Bear has a crush on Nikki. He cannot say it. He buys a toy that claims it will grant one wish. He wishes she loved him more than anyone. She does.

What It Actually Felt Like
I had a great time. That is the first thing. I also spent the back half of Obsession going please do not let anybody love me like that.
Bear works at a music store with his friends. Nikki is one of them. He likes her. He cannot get the sentence out. So he breaks a little wooden wish thing — the One Wish Willow — and asks for the version of love that does not leave you in the friend zone. He gets it. Immediately. Too much. The kind of too much that looks like devotion if you are lonely enough, and then you are watching somebody wait in your doorway all day because you left the house.
I was in it. I laughed. I covered my mouth. I did not look away. Inde Navarrette is the whole engine. You can still see a person in there, which is worse. Michael Johnston plays Bear like a man who wanted a girlfriend and got a haunting and still tries to make it work a little too long. That is the scary part. Not the toy. Him. The wish is just the excuse.
I kept thinking about every time somebody has told me they would die for me like that was a compliment. This movie is what that sounds like if you let it finish the sentence.
The Honest Part
Monkey's paw is not new. You know the assignment by minute twenty. I did not care. I was still locked in. It is gory. If you cannot do that, skip it. I am not going to list the bits. You will know them when they happen.
The ending is the right kind of ugly. I am not spoiling it. I sat there after the credits like I needed a glass of water and also like I wanted to tell somebody to go watch it tonight.
Who This Is For
If you like horror that is messy and a little funny and you have ever been the friend who said just tell her, this is your night. If you are currently in something that feels like a wish you should not have made, maybe wait. Watch it on a night you can laugh and then go to sleep in your own bed.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope a love like this never finds me.
