I grew up in both rooms. Choir on Sunday. Somebody's cousin DJing on Saturday. Same city. Sometimes the same people, just different shoes.
People talk about that like it is a plot twist. It is not. Gospel is a language. The club is a language. A lot of us are bilingual and did not get a certificate for it.
I think about it every time GloRilla puts Kirk Franklin on a record, or Mary turns No More Drama into church in an arena, or a DJ in Houston blends a hymn into a bounce record and nobody flinches. The pipeline was never a contradiction. The contradiction is pretending we have to pick.
I still get up and go when I am home. I still stay out too late when the night is right. Thirty-three and I have not resolved it because there is nothing to resolve.
If you only know me from the pit at Stubb's, this is the other half. If you only know me from Sunday, I was at Juvenile too. Both things stay.
